Intermediate/Advanced Program (Ages 11-14)

At this level, students will concentrate on more complex movements, expression, and musicality. They will build strength, stamina and technique through lengthier combinations and being introduced to more advanced movements. To advance to the next level, students must demonstrate their awareness of vocabulary and proper technique. This is also an age in which dancers can choose to audition in our dance company, which develops their performance skills and gives them the opportunity to perform throughout the year.

Schedule

Dancers at this level will start class at the ballet barre to work on classical technique, executing combinations at different musical tempos and on different musical counts.  They will work to build strength and learn how to put several steps together while smoothly transferring their weight and holding correct posture and body placement.  They will also add new steps to their repertoire, moving beyond the Intermediate Level.  Center work will consist of an adagio, a tendu combination, jumps – including petit allegro and batterie, and pirouette preparations and turns.  Corner work will consist of jump, waltz, and various traveling combinations, including grande allegro, which are more advanced than at the Beginning Level, and kept in time to the music. Dancers at this level are taking at least 2  Ballet Technique classes and 2 pointe classes.

Jazz IIB

This Modern Dance class focuses on both modern dance technique and dance improvisation for any style. The modern aspect of the class focuses on full-body movement, fluidity, floor work, and beginning partnering and lifts. Dancers will also become familiar with improvisation: creating movement on the spot without prior planning or choreography. The class will use fun, game-like improv exercises to increase dancers’ confidence and creativity in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
